Hello. I’m Lev Parikian: writer, conductor, London-dweller.
My work as a writer has resulted in six books. You can learn all about them here. I have a short piece of writing in the excellent Red 67 anthology, a collaboration between 134 creators celebrating – and raising money for the conservation of – the 67 British birds on the red list of conservation concern. I write for the Guardian’s Country Diary, have reviewed for the Times Literary Supplement and written features for Bird Watching magazine.
My work as a conductor has resulted in a lot of concerts and two CDs. You can learn about upcoming concerts here. You can buy my recording of Stuart Hancock’s Raptures with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Jack Liebeck here, and my recording of Roland Roberts’s An English Elegy with the City of Oxford Orchestra here. I also recorded the theme tune for The Missing Hancocks for BBC Radio 4 with the BBC Concert Orchestra, an experience I wrote about here.
One of the benefits of the time I spent on Twitter was the birth of the Twitter Birdsong Project – a ‘bird a day’ 12-week course designed to help beginners unravel the mysteries of British birdsong. These days I’m on Bluesky.
A joke tweet in December 2021 led to the World Cup of Random English Words – a piece of nonsense which garnered a surprisingly loyal and vociferous following. It’s all here.
I write regularly on Substack. It’s called Six Things, and you can find out more, and subscribe, here.
