Taking Flight

A celebration of the miraculous phenomenon of flight through fourteen species and across millions of years – from pterosaurs to dragonflies, butterflies to albatross.

Taking Flight is published by Elliott and Thompson. You can get it anywhere books are sold. I’d recommend an independent bookshop – even if there isn’t one local to you, most places will take orders by phone and online, and will send to you wherever you are.

I’m an affiliate of bookshop.org – if you buy through my shop there I get 10%, and another 10% goes into a pot which is then distributed among independent bookshops.

Another site that supports independent bookshops is Hive. And of course Waterstone’s is well known and an extremely useful place to buy books. You can buy Taking Flight from any of them using the buttons above.

Or you can buy a signed copy directly from me.

For e-readers, it’s available on Kindle and Kobo.

What people have said about Taking Flight:

“Whether you’re an engineer, a linguist, a historian or just curious, this book has something for you. It explodes with fascinating titbits, all delivered with a gentle touch of humour. Get ready to be swept away by the expertly crafted harmony of Taking Flight.” – Professor Lucy Rogers, author of It’s ONLY Rocket Science

“Lev Parikian explores one of nature’s most astounding evolutionary conjuring tricks with gags and with love. A work of clarity, levity and joy.” – Caspar Henderson, author of Book of Barely Imagined Beings: A 21st Century Bestiary

“Taking Flight is a wonderful journey… An illuminating book written with Lev’s characteristic warmth, I didn’t want this flight to end.” – Jon Dunn, author of The Glitter In The Green

“Lev Parikian’s writing – about the extraordinary wonders of flight – is as magical and uplifting as the aerial dynamics of our tiniest insects and birds.” – Ann Pettifor, author of The Case for the New Green Deal

“This book soars. Lev Parikian illuminates one of the most magical mysteries of the natural world: how birds, bats, and insects break the bounds of Earth and fly through the heavens. His prose is every bit as buoyant as his airborne subjects. With the conversational chops of a storyteller and the authoritative expertise of a scientist, Parikian is a nature writer at the top of his game.” – Steve Brusatte, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs
