UPDATE: Thanks to the generosity of many people, all the words have now been allocated. Do feel free to continue donating to this excellent cause, but unfortunately you will not receive a word.
On 4th December 2021 I had a silly idea. What words, I thought, are the really good ones? And so began the Twitter World Cup of Random English Words (you can find it on Twitter quickly enough by searching for my name.)
Eight months and 1024 groups later, Round 1 is complete, and now you have a chance to sponsor one (or more) of the 1024 words remaining in the competition. When you make a donation to Siobhan’s Trust through this page, you will be randomly assigned a word. You will follow its journey through the later rounds, knowing that you have done so in an excellent cause. And if it wins, you will earn the unending kudos and respect of your peers.
All proceeds will go directly to Siobhan’s Trust – raising funds for traumatised Ukrainians to offer them hope by giving pizza & love.
Each word costs a minimum of £2.
How it works:
– fill in your name and email address below. Click ‘SIGN UP’. You will be sent to the WCOREW JustGiving page.
– make your donation. The minimum donation is £2, but do feel free to give more if you are able. £4 will bag you two words, and so on. The maximum number of words per person is five, so if you give more than £10 (which would be extremely generous) you will still only receive five words.
– you will receive your randomly assigned word(s) by email. Do by all means encourage other people either to vote for your word in the remaining rounds, or – even better – urge them to sponsor a word themselves.
– follow your word’s progress through Round 2 and beyond (the Grand Final should take place on 31st December 2022).
– you are of course free (and encouraged!) to make a donation directly to Siobhan’s Trust, but you can only sponsor a word by doing it through this page.
– your donations are eligible for Gift Aid, should you so wish.
– your contact details are kept in a database, will only be used for communication in connection with this campaign, and will be deleted on completion of the campaign.
Please note: there are no longer any words awaiting sponsorship, although you can still support the charity
